THE REAL FOOTBALL ON THANKSGIVING!

By: Alberico | November 25th, 2008

I am quite sorry for the lack of updates, but finals are KILLING me!!! Still no excuse. But anyway, things are looking pretty good for us DORIANI lately as we are winning games, the latest being an important victory at home against a team ahead of us in the standings, Catania. The result, 3-0, reminded me of many of the home games last year with the score line, and it is easy to admit that since the return of Bellucci, the team, and Cassano especially have elevated their game. And now, while Americans will be stuffing their faces with stuffed turkey (or with lasagna first, turkey second in my house, Italians what can i say lol), SAMP will be facing a tough test in their second UEFA Cup group game against the Germans of Stuttgart, with mighty striker Mario Gomez. So in between turkey legs i will be watching this game.

Regarding our situation in UEFA, we are coming off a great away win at Partizan in Matchday 1, and as i see it, 4 points from our last 3 games would put us through to the Knockout Phase. It will be very interesting to see what Mazzarri does lineup wise because, yes, this game is important, but we also have a very crucial away tie Sunday at Cagliari, where 3 points are more than plausible, and i think are important. I definitely think we will see some reserves in the starting lineup and there is also great news that Captain Palombo is practicing with the team again and may play this week. We really miss him too, and I think he is the missing piece that will allow our take off to really pick up speed. The team as of late is definitely playing better, at home at least, but still lacks that very important quality of any successful team, which is the intensity and resourcefulness on the road. Delvecchio is playing somewhat better but still does not impress me and we still have not given Cassano an attacking partner [rumors are that SAMP may acquire Pazzini this January, which would be GREAT].

So this is the news lately. Big games this week and hopefully we can win both. There will be a full match report by me after the Stuttgart game because i will be glued to my laptop watching the game. Oh and in December/January i will be reporting LIVE FROM GENOVA, as i go on vacation to visit my family. During my time there i plan to attend Sevilla @ SAMP 12/18, Fiorentina @ SAMP 12/21, and SAMP at Udinese 1/11. I WILL HAVE PICTURES FROM LA CURVA SUD!!!! But until then, let’s worry about Thursday, by bringing 3 points and quite possibly a ticket to the knockout stage, which is definitely our goal!.

FORZA SAMP

oh and here, enjoy last week’s highlights
Cassano was superb!

I truly hope Cassano scores a brace. I’ll try to watch the game online.

Well, Im glad to see Samp didn’t lose the game on Thursday. The team has the chance to beat Standard next time, I believe, and playing on road will be a task for this team. But standing on 2nd place with 4 points and a game less than Sttutgart is a good sign.

I agree, I hope Samp gets Cassano a formidable partner in January and things will defenitely improve.

Derby next week, looking forward to it. I really don’t know how Sampdoria continues to do poorly against a team like Cagliari. You guys have a solid team and from what few games I saw are playing very good football but the goals just aren’t coming. Losing Maggio didn’t help, you really need another striker to help out Cassano because Bonazzoli and Belluci just don’t cut it.
